How do we conserve our earth's many resources like trees, metals, and other materials? One easy way is becoming more and more prevalent, and that is recycling. At the university we have a recycling center located just north of the stadium which collects all of USU's recyclables. These items are collected, sorted, and then processed for sale to other companies to reuse. We also have the opportunity to recycle when we upcycle or reuse. Upcycling is using items for different purposes or refurbishing them. Ways we can reuse or upcycle is by shopping at thrift stores, finding a new use for that old bookshelf, or swapping old clothes with a friend.
Utah State holds events to promote these practices and the two main ones are Recyclemania which was an eight week contest between midwestern colleges to see who recycles the most. The sustainability council also hosts an event called The True Blue Reuse sale which allows students moving out to donate things which are then able to be resold to other students. It's a great way for you to get rid of stuff you don't want anymore while giving someone else a great deal! It's a fun way to recycle and become more sustainable.
